[ CHARACTER INFORMATION ]
Character NAME: Sohki
Canon & MEDIUM: Genju no Seiza, manga.
Canon PULL-POINT: Just after Sohki returns to Fuuto in Volume 4. Sohki was then on his way to Count D’s pet shop with Fuuto and the others before finding himself in Exsilium instead.
Character AGE: Ancient (at least 3000 yrs ), appears to be mid-late twenties/early thirties. He's been around for all the Holy Kings, and to date there have been 42 of them. How long he's been around before he began his duties with the Holy King is unknown.
Character ABILITIES: One of Sohki’s powers is the ability to read into people’s hearts. Basically what this does is he can see their 'true form’ by just looking at them. It’s not what a telepath can do by reading minds, but more of an ability to read a person’s soul and sense their thoughts to know what they are like at their core. So if he's looking at another living creature, he can tell exactly what they're like. To put it simply, he can see what somebody is like similar to reading a personality section of an application.
He does have some level of telepathic ability as well. He can't control anyone with his thoughts, but he can read surface thoughts.
He is able to travel swiftly across the world, and a single leap can have him halfway across a continent, such as leap from Japan to France, in one jump.
Sohki’s also able to control the elements (basically the same as what Storm does in X-Men). He has been known to appear in a clap of thunder and lightning, and he can influence the environment around him in ways such as increase air pressure. Throughout the series, he often uses lightning to attack or to assert his dominance, but Sohki has also been able to create violent hurricanes, tornadoes, and earthquakes if he's challenged. With his power, he could easily destroy the whole of Japan with a single wave of his hand.
Another ability the kirin has is the ability to grant any wish, desire, or power that somebody desires. It doesn't matter what it is that person wants, the kirin grants the wish by manipulating time and space to force events to change around the individual's life in order to make that happen. It can be as simple as magically changing the stoplight from green to red, or creating an accident where the soul of one person is stripped from their bodies to take up residence within another body, or going so far as to give power/ability to start a war so that their owners could obtain what they wanted. In this sense, there is no lengths that the kirin wouldn't go in order to make their selected person's wish come true. Like all things though, the wishes granted have a price attached to them. No matter what wish it is that he grants, they are all paid in blood in the end - whether or not it's the blood of somebody close to the wishmaker, or in all of the soldiers sent out to a war, blood would be spilt, and it's generally in the form of something dear to the wishmaker.
The kirin species is known to 'control the fortunes of Nations'. In tune with the kirin's power, having one in your life often brings the people around it tremendous luck and prosperity. This is similar to a passive ability, and these aspects around those Sohki graces his presence with would increase. Maybe it's as small as better luck at winning in a poker game, or taking a successful shot in a basketball game, to something as large as something that should never go in someone's favour does.
Sohki is almost completely blind and he is deaf (a sign of just how old he really is despite his young appearances), but even with these two disabilities, he’s not hindered in the slightest. He walks around with his eyes closed 99% of the time, and uses his strong telepathic and mental ability to see the world around him. He’s able to use devices such as cell phones without any problems, and for all appearances seems to live a normal life.
He knows every language on Earth - whether it's a human language or an animal language. He's well over three thousand years old, and being a holy guardian and a sacred beast, it has given him the time and opportunity to observe and understand all creatures on Earth.
Probably the oddest thing about Sohki would be his appearance. He has one of three possible appearances. Two of them are human in nature, while the third is his true form as the kirin (unicorn). Who sees what form depends on the person and the power they hold.
- His first form (the blue background image) is a simple modern-day Chinese style outfit – similar to a modern day Hanfu. This form Sohki takes is for when he’s out and travelling around towns/cities since his appearance is ‘inconspicuous’. This form is often seen by people who have no magical ability at all - so basically normal humans will view Sohki in this form.
- Sohki’s second form (the pink background image) is similar to that of someone out of a Chinese opera with his outfit being traditional and highly decorated with ornaments. He takes this second form at all other times he’s around those who he works with. Those who can see him in this form are those who have magical attributes to them. It can be any type of magic really, it doesn't matter, as they'd all see them in his majestic outfit.

- His final form is that of the kirin. There are only two ways that people will be able to see this form. The first is if he allows it to be seen (he’s not shy in flaunting it to those he likes or who asks to see it), and the other is before those who hold mental abilities – like strong telepathy or those being able to sense someone’s true form. Outside of these two reason, Sohki will either appear to someone as either his first or second form.
Character HISTORY: Sohki’s the oldest of the Celestial Guardians who protect and serve the Holy King of Dhalashar. While he’s one of the guardian beasts, he’s the only one who isn’t under command or control of the Holy King or the other guardians who serve the king. Sohki is also a kirin (unicorn) and is the oldest and highest ranking member of the kirin tribe. In the past, Sohki’s ability was used to find the child who would become the next Holy King of Dhalashar. Children would be brought to stand before Sohki and he would use his ability to look into their hearts to see if they were the chosen one or not. He would successfully pick the next Holy King each time without fail.
While it’s not actually stated what happened, Sohki began to grow tired of the constant battle between two of the other senior guardians, Garuda (the phoenix) and Naga (the dragon), and left the Dhalashar palace to begin roaming the world. After that the other guardians were left with no choice but to seek the next Holy King without his aid. He flat-out refused to help any of the other guardians while the feud between Garuda and Naga continued.
It wasn’t until the 42nd Holy King was ‘found’ that Sohki began having anything to do with the other guardians or Dhalashar again. Unlike any other time throughout history, there appeared to be two possible Holy Kings – one found by Naga in China (who Naga placed on the throne), and the other found later by Garuda in Japan. Two of the other guardians sided with Garuda’s choice (the protagonist of the series) after realizing that Fuuto was indeed the true Holy King, but Naga did not believe this, and wanted to eliminate Fuuto by sending a number of the other guardians out to assassinate him – the first two being the guardians who now serve and protect Fuuto.
Lamia (the serpent/medusa guardian) was the fourth assassin sent to assassinate Fuuto, but after her defeat she had doubts as to which child was the true Holy King. She travelled to the mountains in search of Sohki to ask for the kirin to appear before each Holy King and declare which was really the true heir to the throne. She managed to find him, but Sohki still refused to ‘take sides’ in the scuffle between Garuda and Naga and left Lamia without an answer.
Sohki eventually grew curious enough to see just who Garuda had picked and travelled to Japan. His appearance before Fuuto and the other guardians with him had mixed reactions. Apart from one, Hanuman (the monkey guardian), Sohki had been alienated by the others due to his powers and thus only received their distrust and caution towards his attention to Fuuto. Even after his assessment of Fuuto, Sohki still refuse to say one way or another to if Fuuto was the true Holy King or not, but instead he changed the topic by talking about ‘erasing’ the feelings within Fuuto by stripping him of everything he held dear. He did just that by attempting to strike Fuuto down with a bolt of lightning. While most of the strike hit Fuuto’s guardian, Garuda, Sohki’s strike did manage to hit Fuuto as well. All involved saw the gesture as being malicious, save Hanuman, but Sohki’s method of dealing with the situation did what he had initially wanted it to do – the lightning strike did strip Fuuto of the restraints chaining him down, and the potential Holy King woke and found his mental abilities had increased and become more powerful.
He didn’t stick around long after Fuuto’s reawakening and moved off to go and visit his long time friend, Count D - a pet shop owner who deals with exotic and legendary creatures. All the guardians assumed that Sohki had once again left Japan and was travelling the world, but that wasn’t further than the truth. The day after the lightning incident, Fuuto returned to his guardians to check up on Garuda’s recovery only to find Sohki sitting there drinking tea with his friends. While it was Fuuto’s body that had arrived back at the large home, his body had been temporarily housing the soul of the Holy King (Atisha) named by Naga while Fuuto’s soul inhabited Atisha’s body. Sohki officially apologized to ‘Fuuto’ at that point, and knelt down before him – a gesture that recognized Fuuto as the true Holy King of Dhalashar. It wasn’t long after this point that Fuuto and Atisha’s souls returned to their original bodies, but despite knowing this, Sohki still recognized Fuuto as being the Holy King.
Character PERSONALITY: He is both highly respected and highly feared by those who know him for the powers he has, save for Count D (from the Pet Shop of Horrors series) who both respects him and sees him as a friend. In Japanese culture, the kirin is seen as being the most powerful creature (above the dragon and the phoenix). This is because the order of power in Japan follows the style of the Ancient Chinese before the Qin Dynasty. During the Zhou dynasty in China, the qilin (kirin in Japanese) was ranked the highest, the phoenix ranked second, and the dragon the third.
Sohki is known by the other guardians to be the most ferocious and brutal of not only the other guardian beasts, but of all the kirin, and is rumoured to have a whimsical sense of cruelty. This is true, without a doubt, but Sohki more enjoys tormenting the other guardians through other more humiliating means. He’s definitely mischievous and prefers to verbally battle and bait the other guardians and people/beings in his life rather than inflicting physical damage. Part of this is because he feels that the others are just too serious to their duties, and feels the need to playfully remind them that their actions are misdirected by the ongoing feud between Garuda and Naga. The other reason is due to the fact that Sohki is so much more powerful than all the others that he usually doesn’t need to assert his dominance through power.
He is tolerant of those he likes – as can be seen with his friendship with Hanuman when the monkey guardian hangs all over him while he’s speaking with Fuuto. Sohki puts up with the verbally violent animosity towards him with an amused and light-hearted laugh unless it’s something that directly challenges his position and dominance within the group of guardian beasts. When his dominance/position is challenged, he drops his masks and playful air to show the crueler side. It's lucky that Sohki takes most things lightly, and he's more likely to laugh in amusement, act condescending, or even prank those he's targeting rather than attack. This can be seen when Fuuto verbally assaults the kirin in regards to playfully bantering Fuuto about one particular Holy Stone (which ended up being the cheap earring he bought in a toy store in Odaiba and gave Fuuto), and Sohki plays along with being 'reprimanded'.
It is true that Sohki is mischievous in nature and loves nothing more than to playfully taunt those around him, but there is also another side to him that shows the wisdom and sense of level-headedness he holds. Throughout the series he is more like the 'voice of reason' between Fuuto and the other guardians and is the one who will punish the guardians who step out of line. Of course, this punishment usually ends up humiliating the one being punished (depending on the 'crime')– much like when Ohko stepped out of line and seriously injured one of Fuuto’s closest friends. Sohki punished the tiger guardian by turning him into a tiger cub and taking him away for further punishment. This 'further punishment' included taking Ohko to Count D's pet shop while Sohki dressed Ohko’s cub form with pretty ribbons and the like.
A weakness of Sohki's is his inability to empathize with humans. Sohki follows the Wheel of Life, and knows that every soul is reborn after death to continue their journey on the Wheel. This is why he simply doesn't care when a human life is taken, or in the political affairs of the human (or any other) race. He's loyal to only two individual, the Holy King of Dhalashar and the bloodline of Count D's family. Everyone else isn't important enough for Sohki to care much about either way. Because of this, he is more likely to stand there and observe someone losing their life than do anything to attempt saving it.

Chosen WEAPON: Tessen (war fan) - initially, the fan would just have a sharp edge that could be used for cutting. The tessen would basically be a defensive weapon. This is why the fan itself would be impenetrable to most standard attacks - such as a regular bullet, arrow, or sword swipe. It wouldn't be enough to protect him from a bomb blast or rocket launcher.
Over time, the fan can be used more offensively as it grows. It would be able to create wind slices by waving it towards an enemy with a sharp movement that are strong enough to cut into flesh. The stronger Sohki's bond comes with the weapon, the stronger each air slice would become.
This would be a weapon that Sohki would pick up from the armoury.
Character INVENTORY: A special tea that is only grown on the cliff-side of the highest mountains in China. Everything else on him would just be the 'clothing' he wears in the above images.
